The official website has just published the Italian version of the statement released earlier. In short, the team announces the release of the new patch (v. 1.7/2.2), that fixes the Error 16 bug, but there's more.

If you have already experienced the Error 16 and quit the game, your main saved game will likely be corrupted and you won't be able to load it. In order to use it again, do as follows:
  • Go to your saved game directory: My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/MySave.sims3 and look for the file named "MySave.sims3.legacy" (where MySave stands for the name of the town you're playing with). This .legacy file is a non-bugged version of your saved game, and you should create a back-up copy of it for any other eventual issue.
  • Cut and past the following files outside your savedgame directory: "MySave.sims3", "MySave.sims3.bad" and "MySave.sims3.backup".
  • Rename the remaining "MySave.Sims3.legacy" deleting the ".legacy" part and launch the game again. Now you should be able to play with your families.
