cawThe CAW gave some launching issues after the patch 1.24, in particular to who hasn't Town Life installed. Some other users reported problem with the Edit in game option, in particular who hasn't Generations installed. In this article, we will try to solve this CAW issues.

Patch 1.24 installed, CAW updated and incompatibilty warning message = CAW won't load

If you get an incompatibility message when you launch your CAW and:
  • your game is updated with the 1.24 patch (and usually you haven't Town Life Stuff Pack)
  • you have the latest CAW version (v. 1.11.12)
In other cases, we suggest first to update your game and/or your CAW version. By the way, these tips could work.

Follow these steps:
  1. Open the folder where you have installed the game, usually:

    C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 [latest EP]\Game\Bin

    where, [latest EP] is mean you need to open the folder of the latest expansion/stuff pack installed. For example The Sims 3 Generations
  2. Find the file Default.ini
  3. Select the file, right click on it and choose to open with Notepad
  4. Now, we need to open the Default.ini file related to Create a world. You can find it under:

    C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Create a world tool

  5. Give a look at the latest rows of Create a word - Default.ini. You should find:
    GameVersion =
    CompatVersion = 12
    WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 9
  6. Now, give a look at the latest rows of  The Sims 3 [latest EP] - Default.ini. In particular we refer to values: CompatVersion and WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion. If they are different from sono Create a world ones, you need to edit them. In our case, we found on Default.ini of The Sims 3 [latest EP]:
    GameVersion =
    CompatVersion = 11
    WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 8
    and we edited it to:
    GameVersion =
    CompatVersion = 12
    WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 9
  7. Once done, save Default.ini of The Sims 3 [latest EP]
  8. Try to launch the CAW. Now it should work.

CAW loading the game launcher instead of Edit in game

If Launcher pops up instead of EIG mode, you can try to follow these steps.
Usually this issue happens when Generations is not installed, and this method will force your CAW through the creation of a command file. The purpose of command file is to pass the correct parameter needed to open edit in game.

  1. Copy and paste the following code to Notepad
    "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\TS3W.exe"-nosound""-worldFile:C:\Documents and Settings\VostroUtentePC\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Create A World Tool\UserToolData\Worlds\"-editInGameMode:true" "-disableDumpCopy""-speed:0""-noObjMgrsFile:"
  2. Now you need to edit the pasted text with your parameters.
  3. Replace the red text with the path where your game is installed.
  4. Replace light blue text with the path to your Documents folder, in particular to your CAW projects folder. Replace name with the name of the world you need to edit in game.
  5. Once done, save the file. You need to save this file as .cmd not as .txt.
  6. Open the CAW, make your edits, save and then close the CAW when you need to Edit in game.
  7. Double click on the cmd file created in the previous steps.
  8. You should see Edit in game. If not, come back to step 1 and check your parameters.
  9. Do your EIG thing as normal. When you're done, quit/save and sit the usual bit out until you get the successfully saved window.
  10. Select the command window and press <return> to close it.
  11. Start CAW and load your world, it will have the EIG changes.

If you still cannot open Edit in game:
  • You can buy and install Generations

  • Backup your user files (Sims 3 and CAW). Uninstall your game, reinstall it and patch upto 1.19 (don't install the patch 1.22/1.24). Reinstall the CAW, but not the latest version, you need the 1.11.4. You can download it here >>
