As many of you know, on Jan. 20th an even about The Sims Medieval took place in Munich, featuring producer Rawson Law Stovall. Several German sites attended, and they had the chance to ask questions about the game and its features. SimFans.de has published a very interesting article with only new details, and we have translated it for you. Please note that the game shown was a beta version, so changes may occur in the final version. The game is going to be released on March, 24th.

Create a Sim

The Create a Sim screen is structurally the same of The Sims 3, but there are many differences in the options. First of all, you cannot create households, but only single Sims: Medieval is NOT an expansion of The Sims 3 nor a parallel version, and it does not interact with the base game. When creating a new character, you can choose its body/facial features, skintone, eyecolor, clothing and details like freckles, wrinkles, scars and so on. You can set up to 8 different outfits for each Sim, and you can edit them with the Create a Style tool. As for the hair, there are 24 hairstyles you can choose from, and many accessories like crowns, helmets, etc. depending on the character you're creating.

Despite The Sims 3, moreover, Medieval has 21 traits and 15 fatal flaws you can choose from: each Sim has only two traits and a fatal flaw.

One of the points Medieval differs the most from The Sims 3 is the life and evolution of the character: since the game's focus is the growth of the kingdom, Sims' needs are less important and have been reduced. Hunger and Energy are the most urgent ones and need to be fullfilled daily, while the Hygiene bar has a slower decay. We don't know if there are other needs and how they work.

However, the most important difference regards the evolution of the characters: Sims in Medieval do not age. If they get married and have children, they will only grow to up children. There are no teenagers or elders.

Sims can get married in the church, and if they do, the king will send them a present and they will increase their money funds.

Characters' roles

Each character in Medieval has a specific role, for a total amount of 10 (among which you can find: wizard, knight, king, smith). For more information, you can read Rachel Bernstein's interview abouth charachters in Medieval.


The kingdom

The life and evolution in the kingdom are the aim of the game in Medieval, and your task is to reach certain achievement in order to make sure everything is ok and complete your mission. Yes, Medieval is a game that has an end.

Also, there are four indicators that show you the level of overall quality of your kingdom:

  1. Wellbeing
  2. Security
  3. Culture
  4. Knowledge

The higher the indicators, the best your mission: the population will be happier, there will be less criminal attacks and so on. To make sure this happens, you'll have to complete several quests and earn money and experience points to use to place new buildings in your kingdom. Each quest has been created to fit the character (i.e. the wizard has to create potions, the king has to satisfy his people's requests and so on) and has a deadline: if you do not complete it within the deadline, your Sim's mood will decrease as well as the kingdom's reputation.

Buy/Build mode

Although you cannot edit the building's structure (or at least so it looks like), there are many items you can use to decorate and furnish your rooms and places. The general style is obviously medieval, with many wood and metal objects; kids have themed toys, like the teddy bear with an armor or ragdolls for the girls. Toilets are very stark and of course there are no appliances or modern items (there is a special shelf for conserving your meals though).

Also, collections are back! You can now find your objects grouped by style: noble, military, elegant, magic, artistic, rustic. There are also horse statues, but not real animals.

Meals

Some of you may be curious to see what meals your Sims will eat. At the market you can buy cheese, vegetables and honey, you can make wine and beer in several varieties, you can go fishing and bear-hunting! You can cook your meals on a firepit, using cauldrons for soups or ovens for making bread. The braves will also be able to go and try to catch a whale...
